Overage per 1,000 extra emails:
| Tier | Basic | Pro | Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to the 125k tier | $1.80 | $1.30 | $1.20 |
| From the 300k tier | $1.70 | $1.25 | $1.15 |
A few notes:
- Overage is billed afterwards. Postmark adds extra emails to your next month's bill. Unused emails don't roll over.
- The free plan doesn't allow overage. At 100 emails a month, it's for testing.
- Dedicated IPs are an add-on, from $50 a month per IP, on Pro or Platform, and only from 300,000 emails a month.
- Retention: 45 days on every plan. Pro and Platform can extend it up to 365 days with an add-on from $5 a month.
Basic, Pro or Platform?
| Basic | Pro | Platform | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price vs Basic | — | +10% | about +20% |
| Domains | 5 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Users | up to 4 | up to 6 | Unlimited |

| Custom retention (to 365 days) | No | Add-on | Add-on |
| Dedicated IP (300k+) | No | Yes, $50/IP | Yes, $50/IP |
Most small teams start on Basic. Pro is worth it if you need to receive and parse incoming mail, keep history longer than 45 days, or want a dedicated IP at 300,000+ a month. Platform is for agencies and SaaS products sending for many customer domains. Pro's lower overage rate also helps if you regularly go over your tier.
How Postmark overages work
monthly cost = tier price + ((emails sent - tier emails) / 1,000) x overage rate
Postmark's tiers are far apart (125k, then 300k, then 700k), so it's worth checking both the tier below plus overage and the tier above. The examples show which wins.
How much does Postmark cost at 50k emails a month?
$55 on Basic. The 50k tier covers it exactly. The 10k tier plus overage would be $15 + 40 × $1.80 = $87.
How much does Postmark cost at 100k emails a month?
$115 on Basic. You buy the 125k tier. The 50k tier plus overage would be $55 + 50 × $1.80 = $145.
How much does Postmark cost at 200k emails a month?
$245 on Basic. This one is close:
- 125k tier plus overage: $115 + 75 × $1.80 = $250
- 300k tier: $245
The 300k tier is $5 cheaper and leaves room to grow.
How much does Postmark cost at 500k emails a month?
$455 on Basic, or $550.50 with a dedicated IP.
- 300k tier plus overage: $245 + 200 × $1.70 = $585
- 700k tier: $455
With a dedicated IP, you need Pro: $500.50 for the 700k tier plus $50 for the IP, $550.50.
How much does Postmark cost at 1 million emails a month?
$775 on Basic, or $902.50 with a dedicated IP.
- 700k tier plus overage: $455 + 300 × $1.70 = $965
- 1.5M tier: $775
With a dedicated IP: Pro 1.5M at $852.50 plus $50, $902.50.

How Postmark compares at the same volumes

What Postmark does well
Postmark focuses on transactional email and is known for fast, reliable delivery of password resets, login codes and receipts. It keeps marketing mail in separate message streams, on separate infrastructure, so a newsletter can't drag down your transactional reputation. Its documentation and support are well regarded. If your app depends on a login code arriving in seconds and the price is fine for your budget, Postmark is a strong choice.
A cheaper option per email
Our pay-as-you-go sending, in early access, is $0.20 per 1,000 emails with a $10 monthly minimum that includes the first 50,000, plus a $10 one-time setup fee. No tiers to pick between:
| Emails per month | Postmark (as of Oct 2026) | OwnMailServer |
|---|---|---|
| 50,000 | $55 | $10 (shared pool) |
| 100,000 | $115 | $20 (shared pool) |
| 500,000 | $455, or $550.50 with an IP | $100 (dedicated IP) |
| 1,000,000 | $775, or $902.50 with an IP | $200 (dedicated IP) |
Senders at 200,000+ a month get a dedicated IP; below that you send from our shared pool. Warm-up, daily monitoring of bounces, complaints and blocklists, and campaigns are included. We review every account before it can send, and nothing is charged before approval. Our hosted sending doesn't process inbound mail, so if you rely on Postmark's inbound parsing, weigh that. See the pricing page, or our Postmark alternative page for the wider set of options.
